Nocturne 04:44
When the mills of men have ground us To the fighting edge of fate. Who can blame... if lying around us Is the wreckage of blind hate? When for dollars we are broken Like a twig for a fire. Who can blame if by that token We inflame in razing ire? Darkness surrounds the masses of lore For a pittance we have done, Who can blame if we give battle? We are many, they are one! Before him burn the great unwinking lights, The hectic stars of city nights, Red as hell‘s pit, green as a mermaid‘s hair. A queer half—acrid smell is in the air. Behind him on the shelves in ordered rows With strange abbreviated names Dwell half the facts of life. That young man knows Bottled and boxed and powdered here Dumb tragedies, deceptions and secret shames.

ROTTING it lay beneath turbulent sky A fecund carrion thrusting to air Its powerful benediction. Everywhere a cloudless bream Joyfully strengthened, begin to rise; Shifting sands within due time countless crawling things in swarm Called by death that feeds and fortifies. So, laughing to the world he came: Death Transformed, quickened by strife. dark disguise could not conceal the flame; behind his ineffectual mask, Sparkled fresh and conquering eyes of Life. TERROR you bring into this room ; Creeping timbers reek of gloom There is no youth within your eyes, a fresco of craven lies And though cheeks still bravely bloom You’re in league with death and doom; Came with laughter bright, Wine and flowers of the night Jest upon your tongue, The merriment of your song, You stifle us, who have not sung, And when you dance with ease and grace There is a look upon your face That leaves us shaken and unstrung. The words you say are fine and sweet, And every step you take is sure, And seemingly you shall endure When we are dust within the deep. You walk erect while still we creep. No blunders mar your perfect parts— Master you are of human hearts, And yet with evilness replete. The hammer of time bends and sways The steel of life, it’s unending A sleeping giant, locked beneath Shifting sands of autocracy But there on the summit Reddish suns begin to swell Arise for the struggle! The time for peace, too long to tell Break the sorcery of modern times Fight alienation with your mind Emancipate the new slaves Obliterate our scarcity The tools are staring you in the face But they won’t wait, or hesitate Break the chains of property In the curse and rack of Destiny

Crooked steps Lined out before me Decrepit road Along nameless seas There they rest A hollow tomb Surrounds me Peculiar portraits frozen in time A life completely wasted On promises foretold Back when you were a stinking corpse in snow The indignity within we swim False dawn of future hope Exploited til the bitter end Power lies in struggle Bosses whip and wobble When the masses rise Demanding a new deal While the toiler waits the vulture dies Barrels of ink splash around The margins of a hive Down set but smarter still Language of new nations Rank and files unearthed Smashing unearned Capital Accumulation In a dark hour Tasting the earth Inhaling moss Transmute the revolution Take a glimpse of forgotten dreams Rekindling the fire, so close beneath Ancient modes of existence Once trapped by crooked kings The serfs have put a hex on thee Defenestrated once more On bended knee Aghast! The spire! It beckons to me The end of exploitation And scarcity Is what awaits On the sacred tree And the moans of Forsaken seas I will eat of this to its last shred

Gone is the euphoria The wells poisoned by cholera Spy hunting public running amok in the streets The 4th of August 1914 An echo of disharmony Violent beginning to an epoch yet to end Legacy of brutality We live in its shadow, flattened by time Barbarism is all that awaits us now WHEN we are ground into reluctant dust, Unsmiling and unconquered, stubborn still When the last drop falls, when the dry touch of rust Benumbs each will We will step from the boards still valorous, still proud (Hope for a halo, courage for a shroud) We will go-but we will go unreconciled And undefiled

Creator Spirit uncreated Sails on fleet waves far away, Worlds heave, Lives are generated, His Eye spans Eternity. All inspiriting reigns his Countenance, In its burning magic, Forms condense. Voids pulsate and Ages roll, Deep in prayer before his Face; Spheres resound and Sea-Floods swell, Golden Stars ride on apace. Fatherhead in blessing gives the sign, And the All is bathed in Light divine. In bounds self-perceived, the Eternal Silent moves, reflectively, Until holy Thought primordial Dons Forms, Words of Poetry. Then, like Thunder-lyres from far away Like prescient Creation's Jubilee: "Gentler shine the floating stars, Worlds in primal Rock now rest; O my Spirit's images, Be by Spirit new embraced; When to you the heaving bosoms move, Be revealed in piety and love. "Be unlocked only to Love; Eternity's eternal seat, As to you I gently gave, Hurl you my Soul's lightning out. 'Harmony alone its like may find, Only Soul another Soul may bind.' Out of me your Spirits burn

Smells of Liberation Wafting in Air Unconquerable Apparitions Shades of Terror Train loads of mill workers Valley of Sin “Tierra y Libertad!” The stink of our skin Righteous distortion Cosmos Aligned Shapeless Putridity Wrinkle in Time Desperate peons swell Lead us away Nine years of life Warbles and fades By all the tyrants‘ crimes Beneath the sun A life Paid for with blood and bone Ashes scattered and scalps in tow Midnight is come As dark as the bottomless gloom Cemetery robbins chirp to the moon A garish life set along the path Once walked in shame Little more than exploited muscle Snared by tragedy The land for the people Movements betrayed Peasants laid down their arms Led to their graves Day returns with sol unmoved All that’s left for me and you Is a final taste of dirt and our Marrow left to ooze Unmarked graves below your feet Ashen ghosts of the sunken heap Century after century, awoken again By the pampered fold of creation

Flames Creator-like once poured Streaming to me from your breast, Clashing up on high they soared, And I nursed them in my breast. Shone your form like Aeolus-strains above, Shielded soft the fire with wings of Love. I saw glow and I heard sound, Heavens onward sweeping far, Rising up and sinking down, Sinking but to soar the higher. Then, when inner strife at last was quelled, Grief and Joy made music I beheld. Nestling close to forms so soft Stands the Soul, by spells enchained, From me images sailed aloft By your very Love inflamed. Limbs of Love, by Spirit once released, Shine again within their Maker's breast. Ten Acres burn beside the priest A life left unturned, with sin and sleep Arise the fire for a sod Ten acres of hell is all we are

about

TEN ACRES OF HELL—the second offering from OUTER DARKNESS—features seven new tracks blending blistering black metal with skramz and hardcore elements to create a singular expression of raw, emotional, extreme music.

Recorded during the bleak months of 2020, in the midst of a pandemic and (scariest of all) awaiting a first-born child to enter this grim world.
